New Oom

That’s not a typo.

Over the weekend, Haley got a new room! But JT used to say “new oom” when he moved to his new room before Haley was born, and now Haley says “new oom” too.

Since I knew we were having a baby girl, I’ve wanted to paint the walls yellow and get white furniture. But since I already had a perfectly good cherry dresser and crib, we stuck with it. Until now! With Aunt Jennifer’s due date this summer, we had a timeline for passing off the crib and I had been looking for white furniture and a white toddler bed on Craig’s List. I found some on Friday and off we went. Then I was so excited I stopped and got paint… and then my mother-in-law suggested that she sweep the children off for the day on Saturday so I could Extreme Makeover Haley’s room without interruption. Here’s what it looked like before…

Then… ta-da!

It is tough to pick a yellow, and it doesn’t look as nice in the pictures as it does in person. It is perfectly buttery yellow with no green in it. I absolutely love it! So did Haley. Check out the video of the big reveal.
First thing she did (after standing on the bed, of course)? Started pulling clothes out of her dresser to change. “New, on?” My friends with daughters have warned me about this… it was so cute to watch.

She slept great in her big girl bed. In fact, she was so excited that after bath I could barely get her pajamas on. She kept crawling in bed and pulling up the blanket: “Night night!” She fell out just once around 11 PM but managed to climb back in before I got in there.

Daytime nap is the real test… but she passed. Here she is after her first nap: rested after three hours in her new bed!
And it was good timing, because we spontaneously spent the night at my parents’ house after we stayed up way too late on Mother’s Day. JT and Haley have their own beds at their house (with their names framed above the beds) and JT has been sleeping in his, of course, but Haley is usually stuck in her Pack n Play. Not anymore! Check them out…
She fell out twice but my dad and I had been proactive with pillows. Night number three was last night, and she didn’t fall out at all. (Or at least, didn’t wake me up crying about it!) I am so grateful for our smooth transition. Love that little girl!
