We started Halloween off on a high note after the Pumpkin Race at school. It is an annual cross-country race by grade level and gender. Then the first place winner from each group gets a large pumpkin, the second place runner a medium pumpkin, and the third place runner a tiny pumpkin. The first ten places get ribbons too. We were so proud of JT and Haley for taking first and second place, respectively, in this year’s event. JT was fourth last year, and he made a goal to be in the top three. It was a close finish with a sprint at the end, and he took first over a boy who has won the past two years!
On Saturday, we did lots of work outside after JT’s awesome soccer game (his team’s first win of the season, 4-1). The men worked on leaf blowing, mowing, and winter fertilizing the yard while the women planted 100 spring bulbs.
JT has continued to make dinner on Saturdays. This week he picked homemade whole wheat pizza – half pepperoni and half Hawaiian. And then we decided to make it family movie night, because Haley was going to be Jasmine for Halloween and they’d never seen Aladdin. So he made brownie pudding cake for dessert as well.
On Sunday, after church and more yard work, Preston and Ali came over for dinner and pumpkin carving.
On Monday, Jim was WATCH D.O.G.S. dad at JT and Haley’s school. He got to participate in pumpkin activities in Haley’s class, math games in JT’s class, lunch, recess, and PE.
After school, JT, Haley, and I went to visit my grandma. She had fun having trick-or-treaters come to her door.
Then we had the Lees, Drews, Coles, and Donovans over for dinner before we headed out trick-or-treating in the neighborhood. It is always nice to walk around with other adults while the children run amok through the streets.
After just a few houses, we switched gears and went to our church’s Halloween carnival. Last year they had 1000 kids show up, and this year they were ready with over 600 pounds of candy. It was quite an event, with an outdoor train, huge inflatables, and tons of carnival-style games indoors. We had a great time and saw lots of friends.
Now to get rid of all the candy! 😉
