JT’s class had another awesome field trip! They’ve actually had four this year, but I’ve only chaperoned two. It was a gorgeous day for outside adventures, and I always get the best group of well behaved boys who are in JT’s friend group at school. They all posed and then asked me to take aContinue reading “Northwest Trek”

Marine Science Research Field Trip
JT’s class had quite possibly the best field trip I’ve ever been on this week. I’m so glad I got to go (only a few parents were able to attend)! We took a bus to the ferry, walked on, and ended up on the Seattle waterfront. I had these six lovely children in my groupContinue reading “Marine Science Research Field Trip”
IB Award
JT was honored at a recent school assembly for being a great example of one of the International Baccalaureate Learner Profiles. Fortunately, everyone was home to attend and Haley even took off the morning to attend the assembly. It was a surprise award but JT saw us in the audience, so he knew something wasContinue reading “IB Award”
Football Plays
This weekend JT had an awesome game. Actually, his whole team had an awesome game! JT ran almost the entire width of the field (they play side to side) for a touchdown, and that was just the start. He also made a flying leap to catch his opponent ball carrier right before the goal line.Continue reading “Football Plays”
Back to School
I can’t believe we have a third grader and a first grader. Today is the first day of school! But let me back up. We started back to school with me going back to my high school to lead professional development for the district’s teacher-librarians. It was the first time in 20 years I haveContinue reading “Back to School”
Haley’s PPL
Haley had her PPL this week! (Reference on PPLs – JT already did his.) Her topic was flowers. That is a broad topic so we had to work on narrowing it down to several questions she wanted answered about flowers. She started by explaining that we planted lots of bulbs last fall, and they grewContinue reading “Haley’s PPL”
JT’s PPL: Grade 2
JT had the opportunity to present his PPL (Personal Passion in Learning) Project last week at school. He has been working with Jim and me since early April on all of the components, so this was quite the culmination. His essential question was, “How do aerodynamics affect the speed of a derby car?” Other secondContinue reading “JT’s PPL: Grade 2”
Empathy Heros and Terrific Kids
Last Friday, Haley and the other kindergarteners performed at the school assembly. They were empathy super heroes. It was pretty cute! Haley had a speaking role as Narrator #4. We recorded the entire assembly because Jim was travelling for work and missed the show. He watched it with Haley over the weekend. I’m only publishingContinue reading “Empathy Heros and Terrific Kids”
Basically Baseball
We basically have three days off from baseball a week: Wednesday, Friday, and Sunday. On Wednesday, we get caught up on homework and housework. On Fridays, we get to have a little fun. Last week we went to a craft night at the kids’ school. They made jewelry boxes for mother’s day, which was really fun.Continue reading “Basically Baseball”
Eagles News
It was a pretty big day in the Keene house. First, second graders sang at today’s Eagle Assembly. JT does not enjoy being on stage, but it’s growing on him. This is the first year (in 5 performances) that I’ve ever seen him actually sing on stage. He was smack dab in the middle ofContinue reading “Eagles News”
