The Big Trip – Part 3

The morning after the wedding, we all packed up to head to the beach: Gulf Shores, Alabama. (“We” means Uncle Rex, Aunt Donna, cousin Bevin and her three-month-old daughter Taylor, Grandpa and Grandma Keene, Aunt Alice, Matt and Jennifer, Jim, JT, and me!)

Here we are getting ready for the five-hour drive.

Here Aunt Donna is giving Taylor one last breath of freedom before car seat time.

Aunt Donna reserved an awesome beach house for all of us to stay in: three bedrooms, four full baths, and beds for everyone.

JT was glad that Bevin brought the gear for Wii Guitar Hero. Too bad the TV in the family room didn’t have RCA jacks. 😦

We woke up on Monday to the smell of the beach… awesome!

The weather was overcast but not too cold, and so we headed for the beach. JT was not too sure of the feel of the sand in his toes at first, and especially leery of the chilly ocean water. Soon, however, he was wading like a pro. Uncle Rex brought his new camera to the beach and took lots of great pictures. There were too many favorites to narrow it down!

not so sure about the water quite yet…

it’s better to stand in the water with dad

we saw a fisherman – and he showed us a fresh catch!

should we head for the water?

maybe it’s not so bad…

for all of you who have ever said “what does your hair look like curly?”
now you know why I straighten it…

Back at the beach house, Taylor and I got some snuggle time. You know, for practice. πŸ™‚

On Tuesday, we took one last walk to the pier before the ladies left to go outlet shopping.

JT enjoyed the pint-sized lounge chairs and cartoons at Gymboree. Grandma bought him the new hat he liked so much.

Grandma also let JT ride in the ice cream truck. He looooovvved it. But then we rounded the corner and – oh no – there were ride-on toys every five or six stores! JT’s eyes lit up and he started doing the “more” sign. Poor Grandma couldn’t say no… so he got to ride a couple more before the day was out.

We finished off Tuesday with mani/pedis for the girls, followed by dinner at the Original Oyster House – with amazing key lime pie for dessert.

On Wednesday, after changing flights due to weather delays affecting our connection in Atlanta, we flew home from Mobile, Alabama. Here JT is in fine spirits after his morning shower. Little did he know he was going to spend another day in cars and airplanes… but he did great. We even had two different people ask us if we traveled a lot, because he was “such a seasoned traveler.” Phew!

  1. Just saw your update that JT loves riding his tricycle around the house. Gideon and JT would make such great play partners! He is loving riding his John Deere \”bike\” around the house too:) Hope they can play in May when I am there!
